Recently Roel Tietema, Manager Process Engineering at Hauzer Techno Coating, has been elected by the SVC membership to join the Board of Directors for a three-year term. “We are very impressed with Roel’s achievements for the Society so far,” William D. Sproul, fellow Director and owner of Reactive Sputtering Inc., says. “We all feel he will do an excellent job on the Board now that he has been elected as one of the three new members.”
The Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC), is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the development, application and advancement of vacuum coating and related technologies founded in 1957. SVC’s mission is to foster technical excellence by providing a global forum in which it informs and educates its members and the public on all aspects of vacuum coating. The educational and technical society has an international membership of more than 1,100 individuals.
Three new members
At the annual business meeting the new Board of Director members have started their three-year term. Roel is not unknown to his colleagues, as he worked already many years as Chair of the Tribological and Decorative Coatings TAC (Technical Advisory Committee). “I am looking forward to being closely involved in the SVC activities concerning new developments in our markets,” Roel comments. “The field of tribological and decorative coatings has grown tremendously within the SVC, making the challenges even bigger. I will use my international contacts to help the SVC provide interesting programmes for future conferences.”
Mentor Award
For Roel it has been a double honour at the SVC conference of this year. Apart from the election as member of the Board of Directors he also received the Mentor Award 2008. Bill Sproul explains, “Roel received the Mentor Award for his leadership in the development of the Tribological and Decorative Coatings TAC and for his contributions to multiple cathode closed-field unbalanced magnetron sputtering systems. It is an award well-deserved.”
